Key Responsibilities / Duties:
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL Development
• Creation of high performance SQL and PL/SQL and in-depth tuning of both
• Contribute towards physical database design
• Creation of thorough, demonstrable unit testing
• Conduct code reviews, by and for peers
• Innovative technical design and creation of technical specification
• Creation of technical documentation that shares knowledge effectively
• Engineer feature and performance improvements, adhering to and feeding back into company standards and guidelines
• Review product requirements to give development estimates and product feedback
• Work closely with QA engineers as part of an Agile software delivery team to jointly deliver quality software
Key Skills and Attributes:
Essential:
• Significant experience of Oracle 9i and10g
• Significant experience in SQL and PL/SQL development on highly transactional distributed software
• Experience of database performance analysis and design,
• Experience of tuning tools and techniques
• Experience within high volume transaction and / or financial services industries (eg banks, stock exchanges)
• Experience of development involving distributed databases
• Proactive work ethic with the ability to deliver results and meet challenging deadlines
• Good communication skills (written, oral, presentations) with the ability to work as part of a delivery team
Desirable:
• Knowledge of Oracle instance performance monitoring and tuning
• Experience with Oracle 11 and RAC
• Experience of replication technologies - Oracle Streams & Replication, Shareplex
• Experience of Agile development practices
• Experience of workflow tools and defect tracking tools (JIRA, TestTrackPro)
• Experience of database unit testing tools
• Experience of various source code control repositories
• Experience of working on several Java and Oracle n-tier based web sites
• Educated to degree level in a science or technology related field
• Knowledge of the gaming industry and an interest in sports
• Experience with customer centric industries and mission critical quality software standards
