Role Summary:
To assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures. To assist and promote leadership in the management and organisation of work in the department as required and to search for improvements in quality.
The post holder will work predominantly in an area of the Theatre Directorate although may be asked to work in other areas within the Directorate.
Qualifications / Skills/ Experience:
• 2 years scrub nurse experience, including laproscopic, vascular and general surgery
• Relevant post-based qualification
• Relevant and current post basic experience in peri-operative care
• Competency to scrub/assist anaesthetist/recover wide range of elective and emergency patients
• Basic anatomy and physiology
• Strong written and verbal communication in English Language
• Ability to self direct
• Understanding of health and safety and control of infection
• Computer literate
• Perioperative Diploma
• Experience in cardiac surgery including Heart and Lung Transplant
• Experience of clinical supervision
• Understanding of clinical governance
• Willingness to work rotation night duty, weekends and on call
• Willingness to wear radiology protection gowns for prolonged periods of time

Theatres
Our client’s directorate covers 23 theatres over 5 blocks. Many of the theatres work 24/7 taking in emergency and trauma work as we are a Major Trauma Centre. The specialities they cover for elective work are Gynaecology, Breast, Maternity, Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT), Maxillo facial, Plastic surgery including micro surgery, Upper and lower Gastro, Vascular, General Surgery, Upper and Lower Limb Orthopaedics, Urology, Cardiothoracics Heart and Lung transplants and Day surgery.
Staff rotate around the different specialities, eventually specialising in 2 or 3 if on the scrub team. Supported by a small educational team and a plethora of mentors. They have recently had an expansion to their service with a new theatre and the use of weekend and evening sessions. There are plans to expand further with the addition of a hybrid theatre planned for the future.
