Responsible for the management and administration of the Engineering and Construction Contract and the Subcontracts. The Contract manager shall advise on insurance issues and manage the administrative of insurance claims.
The principal functions of the Contract Manager are to,
- Proposal Stage
- Report to the Project Manager
- Review the Prime Contract to understand and ensure that the key issues are addressed.
- Coordinate the reviews of the Prime Contract by Legal, Sales and Project Development sections.
- Prepare qualifications to the Contract.
- Participate in the development of risk management strategies for the mitigation of the commercial risks associated with
-the assignment of client furnished equipment and materials;
-the scope, terms and interfaces of major subcontracts;
-prime contract provisions.
- Prepare the major subcontract tender requests.
- Assist in the selection of the proposed major subcontractor(s).
- Provide input into the Risk Assessments.
- Participate in the review and buy-in to final cost estimate and schedule.
- Coordinate the development of Funded Liability recommendation.
- Assist in the recommendations for pricing.
Post Bid Activity
- Prepare the contractual response to the client’s requests for clarification.
- Assist negotiations and provide appropriate documentation on the contractual and commercial issues.
- Ensure that all documents of the contract are attached and correct.
- Ensure that the execution team fully understands the contractual and commercial aspects of the project.
- Ensure that the original Contract is appropriately filed.
Project Execution
- Report to the Project Manager
- Maintain a full understanding of the contractual and commercial aspects of the main contracts.
- Prepare the contract summary.
- Communicate the commercial/contract highlights, dangers and key points to the project team at project kick-off and throughout the entire project.
- Ensure that the project team complies with the contract requirements regarding notices, variances, etc.
- Lead the effort to create opportunities to improve the commercial results of the
- Project including the review of all contractual correspondence to/from the client and major subcontractors.
- Liaison with corporate legal and insurance groups.
- Ensure contractual entitlements to any contract variations are documented or agreed upon with the client before being acted upon.
- Support the Project Manager in negotiations with the client and in preparing documentation for changes and the contract
- Support the Construction, Fabrication and / or Subcontract Manager in the preparation, negotiation and closeout of major subcontracts.
- Review the contractual aspects of Invitation to Tender-payment, liabilities, indemnities, guarantees, warranty, acceptance, and handover associated with major subcontracts in order to ensure a flow-down of liabilities and mandatory terms, where appropriate.
- Develop the claim strategies.
- Manage contract, major subcontract, and insurance claims and variation orders.
- Collate contractual and commercial lessons learned from the execution of the Contract, including debriefing the Proposal Team.
- Support the Project Manager in overseeing client requirements for closeout to strive to achieve complete customer satisfaction
Nature and Environment at JGC
- JGC's major business market is in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of process plants, including offsite and utility facilities, in such fields as oil refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, and gas processing and treating.
- Experience as contract manager for Oil and Gas Offshore Projects.
- Pro-active, flexible attitude and experience with working in a team
- Understanding of contractual/ legal skills and practices for the Project.
- The willingness to take responsibility and make decisions at appropriate times.
- Working experience of more than 20 years in design, engineering management of Onshore/Offshore Oil & Gas facilities.
- Experience in Gas FPSO, LPG FPSO is desirable.
