Eclipse/RCP Java Developer
Description of work
Will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining Eclipse RCP based systems to provide complex financial/accounting functions. This includes analyzing and maintaining existing Eclipse RCP applications, designing and implementing new features using client side technologies such as, SWT/JFace, Eclipse Plugins, OSGi, Web Services, and XML.
Project Background
Development and maintenance of a client’s internal application suite used internationally. The majority (>90%) of the business logic is implemented in Rich Client based on Eclipse/RCP. It is a large application (> 700k lines of code, 100 plug-ins) used for costing, pricing and profit estimating of complex international client’s offerings.
Starting June 2011 the development and maintenance responsibilities will be transferred between the client’s organizations. In course of this, multiple key development positions will be established in Europe, while also maintaining development positions in client’s location from China.
Work can be performed long term remotely. For knowledge transfer it is expected that candidates can work in Vienna for duration of approx 1 month between June and August.
- Sound technical background
- Strong Java development skills with a min of total 4 years work experience applied.
- Hands-on experience involving both development of new application features as well fixing production problems in a maintenance responsibility.
- Core Java, OSGi, XML, Web Services, Spring, Eclipse, RAD.
- Software design and implementations
- Common object-oriented programming and application design concepts.
- Familiarity with software testing methodologies, in particular unit testing and test-driven development.
- Programming languages, techniques, and methodologies, preferably applied in Eclipse RCP applications, for example MVC pattern, multi-threading, interfaces.
- Good communication skills. Ability to work successfully with a large and diverse audience (cultural diverse, administrative, technical, and academic).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
- Very good English. Must be able to discuss requirements and technical matters on the phone with remote teams.
Preferrably
- Multiyear Eclipse/RCP development experience.
- Worked in a Financial/Accounting Services projects in a production environment.
- Deep understanding of Eclipse Plugins development using SWT/JFace, Swing/AWT experience would be a plus
- Experience with J2EE applications and the familiarity with Java development environment tools (JUnit, Log4j and Ant) would be a plus
- Knowledge of user interface, information architecture, and usability concepts and techniques.
- Worked as lead for small to medium sized development team (2-10 developers)
- Bachelor's degree in information technology or other related field.
