Operations Director – Mediterranean region
Working within the Operations Production team to develop and manage the co-ordinated procurement and manufacture of General Books and Video for the Mediterranean region (this is currently for Romania and Turkey, the responsibility of new countries will also be required as and when these countries go live within the Mediterranean region.) In addition work with the local marketing and Editorial teams to secure products for local mail plans.
Information gathering, publishing plans, product specifications from local editions, regular contact with the local operations staff in European countries, regular contact also with mainly book suppliers
Scheduling, preparing annual forecast for all product lines, working to agreed lead times, ensure all parties can meet the schedule dates, negotiating exceptions to the normal lead times.
Progress chasing, monitoring performance of all parties and taking remedial action. Maintaining product schedules and production database
Using Oracle system, raise purchase orders, approve invoices. Ensure prompt payment discounts received and payment terms adhered to. Process improvement through harmonisation. Implement added value methods to free resources and time (i.e. Centralised Purchasing Phase 2).
Working with pre-agreed price grids / price requests provide budgeting / initial costing to local Edition. Recommendations for cost saving measures through analysis of current manufacturing methods.

Education and Skills
Educated to a minimum of secondary education
Strong numerical skills
Competent English speaking and written ability
Good attention to detail
Highly organised and strong time management skills
Competent in the use of Excel, Word, Databases, Lotus Notes. Experience of Oracle is desirable.
Proven track record in building relationships.
Experience
Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role production/publishing house
Knowledge of production and purchasing is advantage
Ability to work to deadlines
Supplier management and intermediary member of the chain is desirable
