RESPONSABILITATI

The NESsT Enterprise Development Associate will be based in Timisoara, Romania and will support the development of NESsT, activities, focusing on the NESsR Venture Fund portfolio in Romania. The starting date for this position will be August 24, 2009.

The NESsT Venture Fund (NVF) is a venture philanthropic fund providing capacity building and financial support to a portfolio of high-impact social enterprises. The objective of social enterprises – which are owned or operated by civil society organizations (CSOs) – is to generate new financial resources for CSOs and to find innovative, systemic, and responsible solutions to society’s most critical social problems and injustices. The NESsT Enterprise Development Associate will report to the Enterprise Development Manager in our Romania office.

Responsibilities:
• Identify innovative and high impact social enterprises for the NVF portfolio
• Carry out the due diligence process on social enterprises, including preliminary assessments on strategy, marketing, and financial viability, as well as to review organizational documents and references
• Provide technical assistance to social enterprises including the development of business plans (market and marketing plans and financial, operational, and monitoring systems) and implementation and expansion
• Develop presentations and conduct capacity-building workshops to support social enterprises through the different stages of the social enterprise development process
• Research and adapt social enterprise development tools
• Regularly communicate with NESsT social enterprises
• Contribute to the research and development of publications
• Support the development of a Business Advisory Network that will invest financial, intellectual, and social capital in the NESsT portfolio of social enterprises
• Participate in NESsT Consulting projects in Romania
• Support the Enterprise Development Manager in administrative, communications and logistical tasks
Requirements:
• Education in either business, economics, development studies or related fields; graduate level studies for example MBA or equivalent experience preferred
• work experience; experience in enterprise development (ideally with small and medium enterprises), business planning or project coordination a plus
• Demonstrated commitment to social problems and marginalized groups
• Knowledge of CSO institutional and financial development
• Fluency in English and Romanian (language skills will be tested)
• Excellent communication, analytical and writing skills
• Ability to lead/facilitate groups and work with representatives from different sectors, including leading group workshops and trainings
• High organizational skills: ability to multi-task and be detail-oriented
• Capacity to adapt, be innovative and creative in working in the social enterprise sector (multi-cultural and changing)
• Ability to work independently and also be part of a team
• Willingness and predisposition to travel, nationally and internationally
• Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
