-Monitoring availability and performance of these Databases and their backups
-Ensure Database performance, security and integrity
-Manage database size and table space
-In conjunction with the System Administration team, ensure effective backup and restore procedures are in place and that backups are complete and accurate
-Deploying and installing patches in conjunction with application and support requirements
-Assist the System Administrators in their role (part of the same team)
-Maintain, develop and support operating standards and procedures
-Produce as required statistics and reports on effective running of the Databases
-Provide on-call support participating in an extended hours shift (07:00 to 20:00) and on-call rota (currently one week in eight)
-Reporting daily to business users, assigned experts on issue resolution and/or follow-up
-Ensure relevant processes are followed (Problem Resolution, Change Control and others)
-Liaise with 3rd party suppliers as appropriate

- At least 3 years SOLID demonstrable working (hands-on) experience of Oracle Database Administration in large complex production strength environments
- Database Administration background MUST be from a production and not development background
- At least 3 years spent within large Blue Chip production Data Centre environments. Sound working knowledge of Database management tools
- Excellent SQL writing experience
- multi-user production systems and their architecture incl. clusters
- Solid Operating System skills, preferably Solaris including shell scripting experience
- Solid awareness of Production operational processes, preferably to ITIL level (certification not required)
- Preferred 1 year working knowledge of another Database platform
- Awareness of complex and multi-tiered application architectures (Clarify, Arbor, Tuxedo and others)
