Description
- The mechanical design engineer will be part of a multi-disciplined engineering team that designs remote controlled electro-mechanical and hydraulic products (ROV’s) that are used in harsh environments.
- The mechanical engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design of both new products and upgrading existing products and taking a design from concept to final assembly.
Responsibilities
- Design of new remotely operated underwater products.
- Modelling of complex parts and assemblies and production of detailed drawings and assembly drawings in Solidworks.
- Detailed checking of drawings, for dimensional accuracy, tolerances and presentation.
- Analysis of the equipment involving; force and stress analysis, mechanism analysis, and hydraulic and electro-mechanical analysis of drive systems involving motors, gearing and actuators. The analysis will involve hand calculations and spreadsheets with Mathcad and Excel, and finite element analysis with Cosmos.
- Interaction with electronic design engineers to ensure the product is designed concurrently with electronic component integration.
- Interaction with production/quality/stores/purchasing departments to ensure that parts and builds are as per the design.
- Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
- Very competent in the use of 3D CAD software.
- Very competent with FEA and hand calculations.
- Conscientious, thorough and meticulous in detail.
