European Network Engineer

RESPONSABILITATI

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Operates the company¿s internal and external networks, including LANs and/or WANs. Plans, designs and implements networked systems, including configurations, supporting/troubleshooting network problems and coordinating with vendors for installation of such items as routers, bridges, concentrators and switches. Works on project implementation. Analyzes the needs of departments and franchises and establishes priorities for network design and implementation to develop new and/or modify the company¿s networks. Provides training and assists with proposal writing. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.

JOB DESCIPTION

As Hostway¿s global infrastructure grows in size and complexity, spanning four continents, ten countries, and thirteen data centers, the ideal candidate will be up to the challenge in managing projects of this scope while also effectively working with a team of network specialists world-wide. Working closely with other Network Engineers and the European Network Manager, the Network Engineer is expected to be an integral part of making decisions about technical development within greater Hostway.

As the key technical resource for the Bucharest datacenter network, the candidate will work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives. Quality and quantity of work performed, as well as, effective project management, and thorough documentation of technical projects will be the metrics in evaluating the candidate¿s success.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Deliver high quality service, reliability, responsiveness and manage performance to ensure accountability and results that support the strategic direction of the networks locally as well as globally of Hostway.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Monitor router and switch logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret activity and make recommendations for resolution.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network operations and Security and appropriate use.
- Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, and so on.
- Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
- Consult with all levels of management to determine information requirements to establish boundaries and priorities of new projects and to discuss system capacity and equipment acquisitions. Seek guidance from European Network Manager or DCS Director to ensure identified projects are in line with Corporate Strategic direction.
- Manage workload among team members, estimate development work required for projects and proactively communicate status.
- Prepare progress reports to inform management of project status and network performance and issues.
- Evaluate new technology for applicability to product strategies.
