Specific Responsibilities
- Responsibility to manage the delivery of a portfolio of Software Development projects by Mi-Pay own staff and 3rd parties to meet delivery and budget timescales to the agreed quality levels.
- Lead and support estimating of projects and supporting Mi-Pay input to client budgetary or forecasting processes as required.
- Manage sanctioning process for all Software development deliverables.
- Ensuring that projects are properly estimated and that development and delivery plans fit with business requirements, escalating issues for resolution with the appropriate personnel.
- Initiate and manage projects within established Project Management methods (e.g. DSDM and Agile methodologies), ensuring the delivery & control of all artefacts (documentation, plans, prototypes, software, configuration management plans and other IT deliverables to quality standards).
- Develop a good understanding of Mi-Pay products, the role of Mi-Pay UK and create good, sustainable working relationships with the UK team
- Evaluate and manage issues and risks throughout the software delivery project, identifying cost effective countermeasures to control and minimise them to agreed quality standards. Report to the Head of Design and Development and Programme Manager projects, escalating issues and risks as far as necessary to resolve them.
- Provide a consolidated report on all development projects on an agreed regular basis highlighting progress against plan, expected milestones and deliverables, and commentary on the status of the project. Support and ensure that the handover to Operations is smooth with the agreed levels of documentation obtaining formal signed acceptance from Operations teams and Customers (as may apply from time to time).
- Demonstrate leadership skills to ensure successful project completion, identifying areas of conflict and using effective influencing and team skills to achieve workable compromises that maximise benefits to all parties

Requirements
- Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle, various development methodologies
- Excellent business, problem analysis, identification and problem resolution skills. Ability to troubleshoot problems in a logical and disciplined manner.
- Excellent customer and team skills and an ability to negotiate in order to ensure tasks are delivered on time.
- Strong technical software development experience including but not limited to Total Quality Management (TQM)
- Experience of working with 3rd parties in delivery of software
- Ability to understand the issues relating to offshore development and to engineer, with 3rd parties, a dynamic and high quality software development and delivery operation.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and multi-task in a complex and demanding operational environment without sacrificing work output or quality.
- A motivated, pro-active, self-starter with a success oriented attitude
- Disciplined with a close attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both internally, with 3rd parties for whom English is not a first language, and with customers. Ability to document activities, problems and procedures clearly, accurately and concisely.
- A demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines preferably in a 24x7 real-time operational server environment.
- A demonstrated ability to plan, organise and deliver multiple medium to large sized projects contemporaneously, on time, to budget and to agreed levels of quality.
- Experience in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and other desktop applications.

The candidate needs to have had hands on experience of managing an application development group for a minimum 2 years as a development manager, with a background in software engineering.
