Job description
The company operates according to a custom Agile development process and works on its own application. The focus is on cool code and applications. PHP Developers spend 90% of their time in IDE. Reports, UML and consultations are not an end but a means. Decision pathways and deploy cycles are very short, so there is inconsiderable momentum. You will be developing codes for the main website and desktop application. The programming languages used are PHP, Python, Ajax and Delphi. The software written by you is used by millions of people each month!
Great yet interesting challenges:
• How do you store half billion photos and videos?
• How do you serve 300 million web pages a day?
• How do you integrate company’s applications with I-phone, Blackberry and Android phones?
• How do you build on an application that runs on 3000 servers?
• Masters degree in IT or any relevant discipline;
• 2 to 5 years development experience creating commercial web applications – NOT PHP websites;
• You have worked on development of software used by large numbers of people;
• Extensive experience with Linux, Web 2.0 technologies, App Servers/LAMP, MySQL (or MS-SQL, Oracle, etc.);
• Up to date knowledge of Design Patterns (like MVC and ORM)
• Experienced with Agile web-development;
• Bonus: Hands-on experience with: LAMP stack, NGINX, Python, MemCached, Prototype, Scriptaculous, Propel, Smarty, Python,or Twisted/Pyrex libraries;
• Housing; for the first three months Hyves takes care of housing, and will
help you find a permanent place.
• Relocation; you will receive a relocation fee to cover for the costs of
moving to Amsterdam.
• Paperwork, any burocracy related to your work permit, and help with
registering for a bank account and a social security number.
