Coal worker in the Riga, Latvia
Coal workers need to clean and unload coal from train wagons!

The employer:

Riga Free Port Stevedoring Company Ltd. "LaCon" territorially is situated at the mouth of Daugava river, straight at the port's entrance gate and at present occupies territory of 23,5 hectares.
Having more than ten years of experience at work with different cargo, starting from April 2005, "LaCon" Company is engaged in coal transhipment. The complex of services, offered to Clients, includes all possible operations, starting with acceptance of carrier's railcars at destination railway station Bolderaja with possible reweighing, and ending with magnetic cleaning, separation (sorting) and crashing of cargo.

The job

The job as a coal worker is a physically demanding job. The coal is cleaned from wagons with tools and dropt out or pushed out from the wagon through the special doors on the side of the wagon!

The job is done at night, day and in all types of weather – even in the rain and snow.


The detailed job description!

1. In first the special machinery empties the train wagons from the coal it self (as you can see in the picture below!) As this machinery can not clear completely that’s wear your job start once the crane has finished emptying coal as much as it can from the wagon!

2. First thing that you should do is open all hatches on the side of the train wagons from the both sides (as in picture below)

3. Once you have opened all the hatches you squeeze in through the one of the hatch and simply push out (throe out) with the shovel, broom any other tools, all the rest of the coal!

4. Once your hatches look like in the picture below that means you have finished cleaning the inside of the wagon and now the hatches must be closed (by you)!

5. Once the hatches are closed you need to clear the train shasees from coal as it’s the international regulations rules (see the picture)!

Working hours
The number of hours will vary as it is you and only you who will be choosing what hours to work and when to take the lunch or any other brake!

But you will have to also work time to time on night shifts!


BENEFICII OFERITE

Wages
The job is paid by piece work which means the faster you work the more money you make!

You will be paid in the beginning 5 EUR per train wagon!

After the trail period your salary will be raised according to your individual achievements in line of work production! Up to 7 EUR per train Wagon!

Norms

Usually experienced coal workers make 1,5 train wagon per hour, on other hand new personal dose in first week 1 train wagon in 1.2 hours but every day the new candidate learns the tricks how to do the same job more efficient and less time consuming! In over all inexperienced candidate will take up to one month to make 1,5 train wagon per hour!

The candidate has to complete at least 7 train wagons per day the maximum is only up to you and up to your skills and compitences!
Other significant conditions of employment
Your employment will be governed according to the collective bargaining agreement and currently applicable Latvian law concerning, for example holidays, etc. Your conditions of employment will be identical to those of your Latvian colleagues.

On one of the very first days of your job, you will receive an employment contract from your employer.

The job contract is offered for the minimum of three month and up to one year!
With the condition if the candidate leaves employment promises before expiration date of the contract the company is eligible with draw the 50% of the unpaid salary!

Lodging

Free of charge will be living on the site!


Transportation
No transportation is required as you will be lodged at the site!
Some practical things
Bring money with you!
You must be able to survive financially until your first wages are paid out. There could thus go up to 21 days before you receive any money from your employer.
During the time up to then, you must have money to pay for food! To cover these costs you must reckon on a Maximum of 150 EUR for food!
Establishment of bank account
In order to have your wages paid out, you must first have a bank account in which the money can be deposited. In most banks this can only be done if you have received a Latvian civil registration number (a so-called ”Personas Kods”). It can take some time before the authorities will issue a registration number. Your employer will attempt, until then, to refer you to banks that will set up accounts without “Personas Kods” numbers.
