The Release Engineer will ensure Embarcadero product builds are automated to the fullest extent possible. Release Engineering ensures developers are able to build source into a defined binary package throughout the development cycle. Release Engineering is the focal point for work between developers, documentation, and the QA group. This position will collaborate closely with these functions to ensure Embarcadero products can be delivered on time and exceed customer expectations.
The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail oriented, and self-motivated. Candidate must be comfortable with a variety of operating systems and have excellent communication skills.
Our future colleague will have to:
•Automate new Embarcadero product builds to fullest extent possible.
•Ensure development issues such as build breakages are quickly escalated and resolved.
•Automate smoke tests, unit tests, and automated test for builds.
•Work with developers to pinpoint and resolve build issues.
•Extend build systems to provide better information for development and QA.
•Administer source control system; be able to branch, merge, and tag during development cycle.
•Develop and maintain custom tools that increase developer productivity.
•Interface with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and other departments as necessary to ensure final product is formally released for distribution.
Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
•1+ year build and release experience. Candidate should have proven skills in developing and maintaining scalable build systems on a variety of operating systems.
•experience with Ant/NAnt and other scripting languages.
•experience of source control systems such as SVN/CVS/Perforce and administration of SCM systems.
•Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) tools such as Cruise Control/Hudson.
•Familiarity with large-scale software product development processes including multi-platform development.
•Self motivated with excellent verbal and written skills.
•Ability to broadly understand product and company goals to design and implement improvements.
Additional Desirable Skills:
•Knowledge of bug tracking systems such as Bugzilla/JIRA.
•Comfortable with other Unix environments inclusive of AIX, HPUX, Solaris.
•Understand concepts in Software Configuration Management such as branching and tags along with best practices for efficient Software Development.
•Experience with Eclipse RCP applications and PDE build.
•Experience with other scripting languages such as Python, shell, batch.
