TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead investigation, planning and implementing complex and significant product/process changes which directly improve the quality, cost and supply of product.
Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations. Improve process design using Lean principles.
Responsible for managing the production facility layout and production resources based on expected demands and strategic objectives of the company.
Responsible for managing and improving the engineering change programs.
Responsible for the assessment and enhancement of manufacturing capabilities.
Involved in tool management processes and controls.
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of technical documentation necessary on the shop floor.
Improve the depth and coverage of the technical support provided to the shop floor and to the maintenance team.
Responsible for compiling key performance indicators that describe the effectiveness of the engineering function.
Influences and aligns personnel and develops networks to identify and replicate best practices.
Provide manufacturing engineering services to ensure current and new products are produced at the highest level of quality and as economically, efficiently and safely as possible.
Manages process engineering activities. Has a strong focus on process engineering and on the design and operation of integrated systems for the production of high-quality, economically competitive products.
Steers the engineering function towards the development or enhancement of the:
Product lifecycle approach - taking responsibility for the cost efficiency and effectiveness of the manufacturing process. Constantly aim for costs reduction opportunities, mitigation of operation risks and product quality management. Take a project-based approach.
Process planning based on pre-defined product families (working under a lead production time environment)
Tooling and fixture management
Standardization and automation (effective use of cad-cam-cmm applications)
Control of the engineering change
Engineering documentation (visual aids)
Equipment availability and capability – use continuous improvement tools and practices to improve the effectiveness of the maintenance function.
Manufacturing knowledge management - takes the responsibility for mapping key manufacturing competences and managing internal training programs for shop floor personnel and engineers. Provide oversight for training programs on new processes and methods for line/shop floor employees.
Standardized work instructions and floor layouts
