The Engineer IT Operations (EO) is responsible for operating all server applications in our data center to provide contents delivery and online services to our customers. He ensures 24/7 availability of the services including monitoring and supports deployment of extensions of the services
Technical knowledge
Linux –expert
a) Basic PC/Server Hardware troubleshooting knowledge
b) Scripting in shell
c) scripting (Bash/ Perl / PHP/python…)
d) Apache2 | lighttpd | squid | resin | tomcat | mongrel | jboss. Be familiar with some and ready to learn the rest -- config files, log files, tuning, maintenance and troubleshooting.
e) Virtualization VMWare, Vservers, and others
f) Nagios | cacti | mon | SNMP | weathermap.
g) Databases MySQL | postgresql -> Setup, fine tune, recovery
h) Basic networking knowledge.
i) Know how to set up, configure and use name servers.
j) stability, reliability and scalability development)
k) Good understanding of security concepts
l) FTP, Mail, File server configuration in Linux environment
m) System performance tuning.
Would be an advantage if :
a) Java programming
b) Linux packages debugging
c) Speak German
Availability to learn other IT fields (especially Java clusters and servers)
Personal Qualifications:
a) At least 1+ year experience in operation of a data center of a similar scale
b) Availability for 24/7 shift operations to quickly resolve any upcoming issues in operations of the services
c) Plans and executes all tasks independently and conscientiously
d) Target-oriented, analytical approach
e) Logical thinking
f) Good team worker
g) Excellent and methodical problem solving skills

i) Capability for finding compromises for conflicting technical requirements
