Job Description:
• Provide both strategic and tactical leadership for all aspects of the company’s Research
• Set the strategic direction for the company’s portfolio and roadmaps
• Ensure the patent process is robust, efficient and accountable
• Develop & oversee Research projects from laboratory to customer ensuring accurate assessment (strengths and weakness of design approaches and implementations on a continual basis)
• Continually highlight means of improving or optimizing research capability
• Create and deliver on a Research plan including resource requirements and budgets
• Manage, develop and expand relationships with leading universities and research institutions for potential collaborative research, outsourced research and licensing
• As the company’s senior Research manager, be the public face to all research institutions, organizations and universities
• Serve as a key member of the senior management team
Job requirements:
• Master’s Degree in Applied Imaging, Digital Signal Processing or relevant technology, PhD preferred
• A number of years experience in the management of applied research in imaging or related technologies
• Record of effective leadership and management skills
• Track record of leading successful applied research programmes for business results
• Works well in an informal, entrepreneurial environment
• Highly motivated leader with the ability and skills to mentor and coach a ‘best in class’ team of technical professionals
• Self confident and decisive
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to influence senior management and sell the research agenda to all stakeholders
• Strong leadership and team building skills
• Effective at recruiting top talent from outside the organization while developing the full potential of individuals within
• Inquisitive and analytical mind, flexible, creative
• Self starter with drive and persistence, as well as a high energy level
• Availability and interest to travel internationally
