Administration of Unix desktop and server machines.
- Installation, configuration and maintenance of *nix systems (solaris, various linux distributions: debian, ubuntu, suse, redhat)
- End user support - investigate and resolve *nix system and networking related issues
- Perform day-to-day administration tasks (account management, system backup/recovery, system patch management, system upgrades, system hardening, etc
- Evaluate, monitor and optimize the performance of *nix based desktop and server systems
- User support for unix graphic environment (gnome, kde, cde)
- Write documentation for policies, disaster recovery, administration and configuration procedures
- Write and deploy system hardening templates
- Help install and configure *nix software
- Good knowledge of unix & unix like operating systems internals and system utilities
- Strong experience in unix desktop and server administration (NFS, NIS, Samba, LDAP)
- Good knowledge of the mail system (smtp, pop3/imap) and mail software administration (postfix, dovecot, spamassassin,...)
- Good knowledge of LAN management and TCP/IP networking
- Good knowledge of system monitoring tools (Nagios, OpenNMS), good knowledge of SNMP
- Experience with system and network security
- Strong experience with shell scripting (bash, tcsh) , scripting languages (Python, Perl)
- Experience with open source software, compiling / installing software from sources
- Experience in tweaking linux kernel
- Average knowledge of c, c++, java
