RESPONSABILITATI

Position scope:


The Systems Engineer is responsible for managing all equipment kept in eSG’s data centres, and thus the provision of a 24x7 technical environment. Responsible for providing network operations and maintenance to technicians and engineers. Performs technical analysis of complex software equipment for customers using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations.


Reporting to:


This position will report directly to the IT Services Manager.


Position Responsibilities:


· Allocating resources to teams and projects ensuring the best utilisation of eSG assets.

· Auditing hardware and software in use, making sure that our records are up-to-date.

· Providing the Engineering & Support teams with the assistance required, helping them to achieve their objectives.

· Identification of tasks which require automating and automating them.

· Up-to-date management of corporate security devices and services.

· Installation and maintenance of all required backups and restore testing.

· Pro-active capacity planning (including hardware maintenance and upgrades).

· Ensuring all software/hardware licenses are up to date. Where the number of licences in use exceeds the licenses owned, ensure this is brought immediately to management attention.

· Utilisation of the tools provided to ensure software patches are applied and that applications are available to end-users.

· Ensuring that the local data centre policies and practices stay in-sync with those laid-out by the IT Services Manager.

· Assisting with the design and management of eSG’s global technical infrastructure.

· Providing support to eSG staff where required.

· Anything else as reasonably requested.

Qualifications and experience:


Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience.


Technical knowledge:


• Systems administration experience, including:

o Oracle Solaris (from version 8 to current version)

o Linux (preferably Debian & RedHat)

o Security management : Firewalls, VPNs (Juniper, Cisco) , IPSEC, Switch HP&Cisco

o HTTP, SMTP, DNS, NFS, SMB/CIFS, LDAP, SNMP, SSH, CVS , SSL, DNS

o SUN hardware (x86 - Sparc)

o Scripting languages (PERL/Shell/PHP)

o Oracle & MySql database

o VMWare hypervisor (eSXi) / OVM



• Knowledge of the following is also beneficial:

o Drupal CMS

o Windows Desktop operating systems (from Windows XP to current version)

o Microsoft Windows Server (from Windows Server 2000 to current version)

o Knowledge of eServGlobal’s products and services


Industry knowledge:


Awareness of fixed line and/or mobile telecom operators.


Functional skills:


· Ability to plan and implement system administration procedures

· Experience in creating and testing disaster recovery procedures
Network administration experience


Communication skills:


• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• The ability to work and interact effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal). These include communicating effectively and professionally with international teams.
