Tasks and responsibilities:
The person holding this position will be responsible for advanced,
technical, 2nd level customer support. You will creatively apply our
existing filtering technology to solve customer specific problems,
troubleshoot functional or performance issues and generally keep the
customers happy with the high level of support they receive.
On occasion, you will discover system defects; then you're required
to present a clear, documented and reproducible case to the development
team, while serving as liaison to the customer.
Additionally, you will be test-driving new features as they are
introduced.
Requirements:
- Excellent English (written and spoken)
- Good knowledge of the Unix/Linux architecture (kernel, processes, sockets, signals, shared memory, IPC) and of the usual monitoring tools
- Familiarity with at least the following Linux servers, applications
and/or features: grub, raid, ssh, Apache + PHP, PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with the Debian family of distributions (installing,
upgrading, customizing init scripts, etc)
- Good troubleshooting skills (turning debug logs on/off, testing
of hypotheses, deduction, analysis of traffic dumps, etc)
- Ability to clearly identify performance issues (excessive disk i/o,
memory shortage, CPU usage)
- Good knowledge of networking essentials and Internet protocols (from bridging and routing to HTTP, SSL, VNC, RDesktop, etc)
- Basic understanding of Windows services, architecture and usage is a must
- Understanding of Windows Active Directory and its usage (you will be required to troubleshoot our integration with Kerberos and LDAP in an Active Directory context)
- Ability to read/debug PHP and/or Python programs is a plus
