Position Summary:
The Senior MySQL Database Engineer will provide the technical domain and leadership required to effectively deliver high-quality, timely solutions and services that meet EA s business needs with a focus on the Online IT line of business. The Sr. MySQL DBA s primary focus is to research, evaluate, plan design, allocate, implement, support and optimize all aspects of EA???s Online MySQL databases in a high volume transactional environment with critical uptime requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Technology Stewardship
-Demonstrates a sound understanding of EA functional / business objectives that drive and shape technology requirements and design deliverables
-In-depth experience in building/configuring/maintaining MySQL databases in SaaS and/or e-commerce environment
-Collaborates with other engineers and architects to drive guidelines, methodologies, and documentation
-Drives continuous improvement; may include design, definition of roadmaps, standardization of processes and methodologies
-Collaborates and maintains working relationships with appropriate technology vendor contacts and peer company contacts
Basic Qualifications:
-BS or MS in Computer Management Information Systems with 10-12 years of related experience
-On-call rotation is required to support a 24/7 environment
-Demonstrated ability to work in a sourced model using onsite/offshore model
-Must be able to conduct systems analysis and translate user requirements into business solutions.
-Exhibit strong problem-solving skills
-Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and customer service skills
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment
-Proven project leadership skills with the ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritize tasks.
-Professionalism in dealing with all levels of management and staff
-Ability to plan and deliver cost effective results.
Technical Qualifications:
-5+ years experience designing, developing, tuning, optimizing, deploying and updating MySQL instances in a high volume transactional environment with critical uptime requirements
-This group will develop, maintain and support EA worldwide databases. It requires in-depth database knowledge with significant expertise in database administration and MySQL application system administration.
-Must have configured and managed online backup technologies in MySQL and ensure disaster recovery and data retention protocols (backup, monitoring, security, installation)
-Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems and work with game development teams on data sizing based on efficient use of multi-core systems
-Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills, ability to design scripts using shell, PL/SQL and implementation of security schemes in relation to SOX compliance is required.
-Ideal candidate will have good exposure to Linux, HP UNIX and Windows. Good understanding of various recovery scenarios, refresh techniques and familiarity with solutions like Logical Standby & streams is essential along with excellent communication skills.
-Ability to work with a highly skilled team of global professionals from Application Development, UNIX, Storage teams and capability to manage 24/7 support is a must.
-Ability to manage external customer facing on-line platforms
-Ability to perform analysis , options for senior management decision making
-Ability to size various database technologies to business needs
-Expert knowledge of at least one other database platform such as Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle is highly preferred
Solution Delivery and Support
-Expert understanding of technology systems and infrastructure
-Expert knowledge of technology and software design and deployment principles
-Ability to articulate end-to-end technical requirements
-Participates in design / development estimating and scheduling
-Can define IT processes and services to align with EA business needs
-Ensures alignment of technology roadmaps to EA s business
-Works with internal and external organizations solving complex problems and handling large scale projects
-Provides detailed, day-to-day direction to development teams to design and build quality applications using standard patterns, architectures, and best practices.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Provides Level 3 (advanced) technical expertise; Oversight and accountability for resolution of outages, service level issues, and user/customer support needs in coordination with other support groups and teams
-Maintains overall responsibility for quality of production deployments
-Defines proactive activities and tasks required for optimization of stability, performance and architecture
-Perform special projects and departmental initiatives as needed
