The Packet Telephony Multimedia Applications Team, part of Networking & Multimedia Group within Freescale Semiconductor Romania has the mission to provide DSP Based Media Gateway Software Solutions in the areas of Voice, Data and Video transmission over packet based networks.
The candidate for this position will work in an engineering team to develop Media Gateway Software for Voice/Video over IP solutions
As a Development Engineer you will:
- Design, implement new features required by a Media Gateway Systems
- Implement various standards included by Media Gateway Systems
- Extend and maintain the existing Media Gateway Software for different HW platforms
- Set up and configure different development environments
- Use CodeWarrior and Linux GNU tools
- Report bugs found during reviews using a defect tracking system
- Use software configuration management tool (CVS)
- Provide support (mail, on-site, remote) to the customers for different problems
Software Engineer for Voice and Video over IP Application Development is a career opportunity for both Senior and Junior Engineer level.

To succeed as Embedded Software Engineer for VoIP Gateway development it is desired that our candidates have knowledge or are willing to develop their skills in some of the following areas:
- C programming for embedded systems (preferable on multiple platforms)
- Networking, Internet Protocol suite (e.g. IP, TCP, UDP, RTP/RTCP)
- Debugging techniques (preferable for real time systems)
- Telecom Standards (e.g. ITU, 3GPP, ETSI, IETF)
- Signal processing basics or Video compression and streaming basics
- VoIP protocols (any of SIP, H323, MGCP)
- Embedded Linux: programming and configuration
- Good command of English language (written and spoken)
It will be considered a plus if you have knowledge or experience in:
- Scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Tcl/Tk, shell scripting etc)
- Assembly language programming
- Data transmission protocols (fax/modem, error correction, data compression)
- Call Scenarios for Telephony applications (e.g. PSTN-PSTN, IP-PSTN, IP-IP, PSTN-IP)
- Voice Band Signaling and Data Transmission (e.g. Modem, Fax, Tones, DTMFs)
- Frequency / time domain analysis
- Operating systems fundamentals (preferable real time operating systems)
- Knowledge in area of synchronization problems on parallel and or distributed systems
- Knowledge in area of real time systems design
- Configuration Management tools (e.g. CVS, subversion, Clear Case etc)
- Familiarity with Network diagnostic tools (e.g. Sniffers)
- Video compression, editing and analysis tools (VirtualDub, AviSynth)
- Experience with different HW architectures
