SAP is the largest German software company with around 50,000 employees all over the world, providing business application software to companies of all industries and all sizes. Around a third of these employees work in the SAP Services division, which offers consulting, training, and technical support services to SAP customers. SAP Consulting is currently building up a new team that will provide analytical services to customers and help them to improve their business based on scientific analysis of large amounts of business data. One example for such a service is prize optimization for retail stores: Retailers collect huge amounts of data on their pricing and related sales volumes. Mathematical models can predict future sales based on the price of a product and external factors (like the season of the year) and then determine the optimum price for each product to maximize profit. The underlying algorithm for such a price optimization can then be used to provide a continuous advisory service to the SAP customer, or it can become part of an SAP software product. A cornerstone of this new SAP business will be a science & technology team that will drive innovation, develop new business optimization algorithms, and provide analytical services directly to our clients.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
A Research Scientist will do the mathematical modeling of our customers??? business problems, develop algorithms to solve these problems, and help our customers directly to understand and implement the results of the analysis. In this role, the Research Scientist will work directly with industry experts and technology experts to translate our customers??? business needs into mathematical models and present and deliver a solution to the client. This position requires the ability to work and communicate as a part of a high performance team in an international environment. Industry-specific experience in Retail, Consumer Products, Oil & Gas, Finance or Public Sector is a plus.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
In addition to a strong scientific and technical background, the position requires strong problem-solving and consulting capabilities with the ability to challenge and communicate effectively in an international team environment. The ideal candidate has:
- MS/PhD in at least one of the following: Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science Engineering, Econometrics, Astronomy or Chemistry
- Understanding of statistical and technical methods to produce relevant information out of huge amounts of data
- Willingness and ability to learn quickly new mathematical or technical methods with little guidance
- Willingness to participate in the sales process as a subject matter expert
- Ability to inspire confidence and work with all levels of client and internal staff
- Ability to deliver clear, concise presentations to non-scientific audiences;
- High energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethic; ???can do??? attitude; professional appearance and demeanour
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Experience in developing software using at least two of the following: C++, Java, Matlab, SQL
- Several years of relevant industry experience
