PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
SAP is building a track record of delivering specialized solutions with high return on investment (ROI) in the Performance & Insight Optimization space. Deep scientific and business intelligence expertise is merged with industry knowledge to model and optimize business performance. The Applications Technical Consultant is responsible for managing all customer data and the software/hardware environments supporting projects. This includes interfaces to standard SAP and other environments as well as the fundamental design, development and testing of new and ongoing services. Responsibilities include consulting with customers & the creation, productization and delivery of proposed solutions to clients. In this role, the Applications Technical Consultant will work directly with other team members to bridge technical needs with science and business intelligence and define how proposed solutions will be presented and delivered to clients. The Applications Technical Consultant will also be involved in the definition and development of both front and back-end technical processes and infrastructure to support the solutions. This position requires the ability to work and communicate in a high performance team, and recommend solutions to internal and external issues. Industry-specific experience in Retail, CP, Oil & Gas, Finance or Public Sector is desired.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
- Execute customer projects and support the project manager in developing project activities, tasks, and delivery milestones. Balance needs of clients with the development plans associated with software products and service offerings
- Identify new solutions and improve existing solutions. Find creative improvements and increased efficiencies to solutions. Proactively extend the group¿¿¿s technical knowledge and capabilities. Support productization efforts and facilitate knowledge transfer throughout the team
- Support business development, sales and marketing activities. Act as subject matter expert and provide technical support and training to SAP employees and customers as needed. Consult with partners and clients, and help explain the technology behind solutions
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
In addition to a strong technical background, the position requires strong problem-solving and consulting capabilities with the ability to adapt, rise to challenges and communicate effectively in a team environment. This position requires the ability to work and communicate in a high performance team, and recommend solutions to internal and external issues.
- BS/BA in one of the following: Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with SQL and common relational database platforms in large environments (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MaxDB, etc.)
- Possess working knowledge of web administration tools
- Ability to quickly design and develop prototype applications
- Experienced in developing software to solve a business problem using at least two of the following (c++, Java, Matlab, SQL)
- Ability to research, prototype, design, code, test, and document new features and enhancements for software applications using both standard Web development technologies (Java, JavaScript, JSP, J2EE, HTML, etc.), rich application interfaces such as Adobe Flash/Flex, and/or SAP proprietary tools (NetWeaver, IGS, etc.)
- Ability to troubleshoot and correct software bugs in released applications
- Help identify new potential product offerings and proactively suggest improvements to existing solutions.
- Provide hands-on design and development support for various prototype projects as well as standard service offerings
- Support productization efforts based on prototypes, and facilitate knowledge transfer
- Experience with SAP BusinessObjects platform is a plus
- Prior experience with SAP NetWeaver is a plus
- Relevant industry experience is a plus: Retal, CP, Finance, Oil & Gas, Public Sector
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of systems integration, consulting, and/or software development experience
- Possess a minimum of 5 years experience working in a professional software development capacity
