Vendio is looking for a Performance Engineer to benchmark, stress test and tune the Vendio’s application stack (databases, application server).
You will be responsible for managing Vendio’s performance lab with the necessary hardware, off the shelf software (mostly open source) and custom scripts for load generation, performance data measurement, and identification of the performance hotspots. You will execute stress tests and generate reports based on your findings. You will also be responsible for making recommendations for improvements and settings and work with the development team in implementing the recommendations and then validating the improvements. You will also be responsible for setting up the automated load test suite for continuous monitoring of the application performance before the new versions of software go to production.
You will be working with a variety of technologies at each layer of the application stack. MySQL, File Systems for database, Application Servers such as Resin, Apache/Weblogic/Tomcat, etc.
You would report to the Chief Data Architect.
- B.S. in Computer Science/Engineering with 3-5 years or M.S. in Computer Science/Engineering with 1-3 years experience in performance tuning web applications, db or linux
- Linux/Unix required.
- Good experience in working with Linux, TomCat, Apache, MySQL, Perl, PHP. Good knowledge of Weblogic and Oracle.
- Experience in stress testing databases (MySQL) and tuning them for better results. Any experience with inverted indexing based open source tools like Lucene, MG is a plus.
- Experience in generating load for web applications using open source tools like openSta, dBMonster or similar is a plus.
- Experience in tuning application servers (with config changes) and JVM for better performance (optimize GC).
- Should be able to put together different performance metrics for applications and develop ways to measure and optimize them.
- Must have strong Technical Depth, Inter-personal skills, oral and written communication skills, and an ability to think out-of-the-box.
