DBA should be able to support multiple production databases including mysql and running Oracle 9i/10g in a clustered environment on UNIX/Linux environments. Should have experience in performance tuning, change implementation, backup and recovery, monitoring and installation as key areas. DBA should be a self-starter and a team player with a strong organization, process and communication skills.
DBA will be responsible for the installation and patching of Oracle RDBMS on Linux, while also working on performance tuning and administrative functions on Oracle production and development databases. This job will need candidates to be on a 24x7 on-call rotation for production databases and will require best practices in all areas of database administration and architecture. He/She will also be responsible for the review and implement database changes identifying problem SQL and area for improvement, ensure backup and recovery of all Oracle data using RMAN, and Develop scripts for reporting, data manipulation and automation of daily tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.
To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Install, configure and setup Database and Real Application Cluster.
Responsible for doing preventive maintenance
Database capacity planning (DB Growth) with inputs from application team.
Problem escalation to Oracle Development team and third parties/Oracle support as appropriate.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team.
Responsible for troubleshooting performance related issues and give consultation to Development teams.
Responsible for designing/validating Backup and Recovery policies and procedures.
Load Testing.
Implement and maintain database security.
Setup and maintain documentation and standards
Help Monitoring and maintenance of standby databases
Technical skills and experience.
Minimum 4-8 years of work experience in Oracle/MYSQL databases
Good experience in Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle/MYSQL server software and related products
Good knowledge of DB/SQL tuning and performance monitoring using STATSPACK reports, AWR reports, tkprof, explain plan etc
Good knowledge of Disk layout and Disk capacity planning with storage teams
Good understanding of PL/SQL, Triggers, etc
Experience with Oracle 9i, 9i/10g RAC and oracle partitioning
Unix/Linux shell scripting
Proficient in Oracle RMAN/manual backup and recovery
Strong experience in Data Guard Designing, testing and implementation
Working experience in Oracle ASM setup and designing
Experienced in Oracle RAC setup, load balancing configuration
Experienced in creating new database as per the application requirements and given design.
Experienced in applying patches and doing minor upgrades.
Experience in MYSQL setup and troubleshooting.
Experience in MYSQL replication and backup strategies
