RESPONSABILITATI

Position scope:

The Software Support Engineer is responsible mainly for identifying and correcting the code errors and for the implementation of software components for the eServGlobal product range, as determined by the Architecture team.

The Software Support Engineer needs to be experienced in the review and interpretation of software design concepts in order to trace, debug and develop software implementations that meet the specified design objectives through proper observance of eServGlobal standards and conventions.

Reporting to:

Software Support Manager, being part of the engineering support group.

Position Responsibilities:

• Installing and upgrading the database server and related database admin tools (internally dev)
• Must be familiar with various releases of Oracle database engine (10g, 11g) and replication technologies (DataGuard)
• Troubleshoot engine and application performance, and suggest SQL code optimization
• Database engine and scheduler fine tuning
• Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
• Contribute to service availability restoration when needed
• Validation and tuning for last released engine versions, optimal upgrade path definition for the organization
• Interface between internal contacts and Oracle for technical support on internally discovered issues
• Undertake the delivery of software corrections, development, programming, maintenance and internal technical documentation according to the eServGlobal engineering requirements, development practices and industry best practices.
• Problem analysis, reproducing and resolution.
• Recommendations for continuous improvement to the relevant eServGlobal methodologies.
• Development activities, based on staff rotation plan

Qualifications and experience:
Relevant degree in computer science or related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Oracle 11g OCP certification is preferred.

Technical knowledge:
• Oracle database engine DBA experience: database engine troubleshooting, performance tuning, data movement/migration techniques, database backup and recovery, application optimization, 3rd party ticket follow-up, etc,
• Knowledge of Solaris/Linux OS and shell scripting ,
• Knowledge of Oracle replication and clustering ,
• Experienced with awk, sed, perl,
• Experience with Oracle RAC is a plus,
• Experience with IBM Informix database server (version 10 or 11) is a plus,
• Experience with centralized backup software solutions (EMC/Legato Networker),
• Experience with fragmented tables and indexes is a must,
• Experience with systematic software development methodologies (according to an internal development life cycle)

Telecom product knowledge:
Have some exposure to specific commercial applications

Industry knowledge:
Awareness of fixed line and/or mobile telecom knowledge

Project management skills:
Ability to achieve agreed deliverable, monitor and report progress.

Communication skills:
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• The ability to work and interact effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal). These include communicating effectively and professionally with international teams.
