Position summary
You will be part of the team focused on building and supporting hosted software services, with responsibility for creating solutions and infrastructure related to the hosted services system. The Hosted Applications System Engineer will be responsible for a wide variety of technical, operational, and consultative activities, including release engineering tasks and designing, planning, implementing, and supporting solutions for both real-time and asynchronous applications delivered worldwide on a 24x7 basis with high availability. As a key member of the Systems Engineering team you will work closely with the Application Development team and the IT Operations team to create a next generation online platform to support the delivery of hosted services applications.
On this job, you:
- Support and maintain remotely global application production environment.
- Installation and configuration of hosted services applications and underlying software infrastructure in the lab and staging environments.
- Install, configure, and upgrade custom and packaged applications.
- Handling and resolving issues escalated from the production operational environment 24x7
- Troubleshooting performance, reliability, and scalability issues.
- Developing tools and automated solutions in support of hosted services
- Evaluate and manage application and environment security.
- Follow change management processes during implementations.
- Work in a diverse team environment.
- Cross training with other application engineers, and training IT application administrators as needed.
This position requires strong technical skills, excellent communications and problem-solving skills, and the ability to engage and interact with numerous external teams. The ideal candidate will have skills and experience operating and supporting Internet hosted applications. Candidates should have experience with Internet technologies and protocols, support systems, and with custom development of tools and solutions to support the applications and environment. Experience supporting a production environment is required. You should have an expert background in running both Windows and Unices server applications.
- 3 or more years of experience in Windows Server and Unices administration in an Internet‐focused production environment (applications servers, database servers, SAN);
- Experience supporting 24x7 mission critical Internet applications;
- ASP and online hosting experience a huge plus;
- Experience scaling web services;
- Experience in configuring and administrating Microsoft IIS;
- Thorough understanding of networking concepts and Internet protocols;
- Familiarity with hosted application service provider environments, including remote administration of devices and log monitoring;
- Familiarity with PCI Security Standards, malware and intrusion detection;
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server (administration, scalability, aptitude writing T-SQL scripts, upgrading between versions, experience with migration tools);
- Experience with another DBMS is a plus;
- Ability to code in Perl/Python and shell script (and learn other languages quickly);
- Programming experience with web technologies.
- Familiarity with a formal software release process, including the software build process and source control.
- Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Fluent in English.
