StudyPortals, the biggest educational data-base provider, is currently looking for a ‘Data Analysing and Project Management Specialist’ to join our expanding team, in Bucharest.
We are looking for a passionate Data Analyst who will turn data into information, and information into insight and insight into business decisions.
You will conduct full lifecycle activities to include requirements analysis and design, develop analysis and reporting capabilities, and continuously monitor performance and quality control plans to identify improvements.
Responsibilities:
You will have the responsibility for two main projects:
• Make “circumferential” study choice information visible & comparable
You will identify, convert and publish relevant data that will help students to choose a university abroad, anywhere in the world. This could include information about living costs per city, student satisfaction per university, location information (for instance whether a university is located next to the beach), average starting salary per study programme, and so on. This “circumferential” study choice information will be drawn from many different sources. It is your job to identify these sources, understand their methodology, and make them comparable all across the world.
• Improve the quality of the university information in our database
We work with 1,800 universities from all over the world and publish more than 35,000 study programmes on our portals. Our data operations team continuously works on expanding and updating this database. But what is the next, most important thing to update? This is where you come in. You will analyse the database with a set of indicators that you will develop, to measure the overall quality of the database and to define the work activities for the data operations team.
These responsibilities will therefore typically involve the following activities:
• Interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
• Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality
• Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources, understand their methodology and find ways to make them comparable
• Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
• Work closely with management to prioritize business and information needs
• Work with our User Experience team and our IT Development team in the Netherlands, to publish the data on our portals
• Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
• 3+ years of experience as a data analyst, market researcher or project manager with a statistical background
• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• Communication Skills: Data analysts are often called to present their findings, or translate the data into an understandable document. You will need to write and speak clearly, easily communicating complex ideas in English.
• Critical Thinking: Data analysts must look at the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.
• Attention to Detail: Data is precise. Data analysts have to make sure they are vigilant in their analysis to come to correct conclusions.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc)
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing large datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc)
• Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
• Study Abroad Experience: it is vital that you truly understand what information international students are looking for. It is therefore mandatory that you have studied abroad yourself.
• BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Industrial Engineering or Statistics is preferable
