The main purpose of the role is to provide an exceptional level of design and implementation expertise and supervision in all development areas relevant to company's current and future activities. The Manager of R&D provides functional and project leadership to engineers and technicians in the planning and design of new processes and components as well as development, application and approval of design modifications.
Ultimate goal for the R&D Centre is to become an important differentiator in terms of expertise and economic efficiency on both local and international market. She will be responsible for managing specific R&D projects and overseeing that your R&D projects meet their quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
This individual will be a visionary; someone who can foresee where the market is in five years and drive the development of products of the future. Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and management for the company’s wide research and development programs and activities;
Develop teams through the selection, recruitment and development of R&D Engineers and the continuous development of core technical skills and knowledge;
Develop career progression paths and establish development plans for direct reports;
Establish and monitors individual and team goals aligned to divisional strategy;
Oversee the development and execution of the R&D project portfolio and resource planning;
Plans and coordinates engineering research and development including the identification, investigation and implementation of new technologies;
Act as liaison with external parties on matters relating to the procurement of services and materials for the company research and development activities;
Supervises the preparation of all control plans, manages the development of test capabilities to support testing requirements, and is responsible for contract negotiations ensuring efficiency and profitability for the company;
Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of the company R&D procedures, reporting on the performance and initiating improvements for R&D;
Work with Senior Management as well as key stakeholders to determine and define both local and global strategies for future development projects;
Provide input and data for analysis in support of the key initiatives of the company’s operational performance objectives;
Elaborate the business intelligence directions with focus towards the general evolution of technology and how it could impact the various components of the business from a product vantage point. He or she will be aware of current and developing technologies within the electrical and electronics fields, including the on-going evolution of the Smart Grid;
Promote the activities of the R&D Centre both internally and externally.
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Electronics;
MBA or Advanced Technical degree highly preferred;
Minimum 10 years of experience preferably with 5 years in a management role within product development;
Experience leading an R&D or Product Development team;
Passion for creating a framework for future products and technologies;
Skilled at developing new ideas from both a product and process perspective;
Strong understanding of the principles of Lean Manufacturing and how to implement the tools in support of operational performance goals;
Demonstrated practical application of DFMEA, Value Engineering, and Design for Manufacturability concepts;
General utility power distribution.
