The Quality Assurance Manager specifies and documents Quality Goals and Quality Assurance Activities.
The Quality Assurance Manager is in charge of ensuring correct application of processes all along a project life-cycle (software development process, software verification process, problem reporting, tracking and corrective action process…). He assesses the software life cycle processes and their outputs to obtain assurance that the objectives are satisfied, that deficiencies are detected, evaluated, tracked and resolved, and that the software product conform to certification requirements.
The QA Manager seeks objective evidence whether the audited activities comply with the requirements of the:
- Configuration Management Plan
- Software Safety Plan
- Software Quality Assurance Plan
The evidence is collected by performing internal audits, observing activities, interviewing personnel, reviewing work products and examining quality records, questionnaires and checklists.
The Quality Assurance Manager shall check actions tracking and resolution of problems raised all along the project and shall approve them by signing off. He should check that deviations are recorded and approved.
The Quality Assurance Manager has the authority, responsibility and independence, to prevent the release of any work product if the output does not comply with approved software plans and the standard.
- Shall know the company Quality Management System and internal processes
- Shall have overall project specific process understanding
- Shall be able to train the team using the applicable process correctly
- Shall be able to carry out internal quality audits
- Shall be thorough and rigorous
- Shall be competent to check follow-up and closure of actions and problems
- Shall understand the requirements of quality standards (ISO 9001, CMMI)
- Shall understand quality, competencies, organizational and management requirements of safety standards (IEC 61508, EN 50128, DO-178B/C…)
