The Storage Engineer will provide and implement storage based solutions as well as offer a high level of support, capacity planning, performance tuning, and assist with project management in a fast pace and exciting environment.
Technical Requirements and Functions
Provides functional and technical expertise with managing, implementing, and designing Storage environments
Design solutions for environments such as highly active databases, email servers, multimedia access, development, and highly available or disaster recovery environments
Must understand and involve ILM thought processing in design solutions
Strong knowledge of SAN and NAS administration and redundancy
Knowledge of Dell or Intel server hardware
Knowledge of RedHat Linux, Microsoft Windows server, and Unix operating systems
Knowledge of HBA configurations and multipathing capabilities
Create design and support documentation and diagrams
Provide metrics and reporting for storage performance and capacity planning
Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup and data protection solutions
Provide High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions using replication and/or clustering technologies
Strong knowledge of storage vendor solutions such as HP, NetApp, StorageTek, Cisco, and Veritas
Experience with installing and managing Enterprise or Director class storage hardware.
Ability to manage the technical aspect of a project from beginning to end.
Collaborates with application and system architects to drive guidelines, methodologies, and documentation
Collaborates and maintains working relationships with appropriate technology vendor contacts and peer company contacts
Ensures technical documentation is kept up to date (runbooks, application and process diagrams, system information, technical documents)
Manage microcode and hardware upgrades
Provide a rotational 24 x 7 subject matter expert on call support
Provide and create best practice guides and implementation standards
Participates in design / development estimating and scheduling
Perform special projects and departmental initiatives as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIRED SKILLS:
- BS or MS in Computer Management Information Systems or other related degree.
- An advanced degree in software engineering is also desirable.
- System Administration background
- Must be able to Travel to and from EA World Wide locations
- Must have 7+ years as a System and/or Storage Administrator
- Ability to conduct complex systems analysis and translate user requirements into business solutions.
- Ability to plan and deliver cost effective results.
- Ability to work and lead using standard development tools and methodologies in the project life cycle
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to balance multiple demands and work both independently and as part of a team
- Proven project leadership skills with the ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritize tasks.
- Professionalism in dealing with all levels of management and staff
