RESPONSABILITATI

We are seeking data scientists & software engineers who will be responsible for developing the algorithms, strategies and engines that power our data-driven consumer applications. The successful data scientist candidate will be at home in hypothesis-driven exploration processes and methods. From white-boarding to deep database exploration, including structured sql and nosql sources, presenting the synthesized findings, developing the prototypical algorithms, rigorous testing and pushing to production.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Work in a team-oriented environment.
Delivering reports and dashboards according to business needs through advanced business intelligence and data warehousing solutions.
Designing, developing and optimizing ETL processes from various datasources.
Interacting with internal stakeholders to gather business requirements, consult and present planned and delivered results.
Producing high quality project documentation.
Developing algorithms and customer or item strategies as well as performing statistical analyses with existing data sets.
Designing and implementing statistical data quality procedures around new data sources, whether structured or nosql. Ensuring all reported data and information are accurate, consistent, relevant and timely.
Performing ad hoc ‘deep dives’ on specific business or user-behavior topics.
Data discovery around new sources or uses of existing ones.
Thinking strategically about algorithmic uses of data and impact on business processes – and how usage interacts with data design.
Visualizing and reporting findings creatively. You have demonstrated your ability to translate insights into business recommendations.
A secondary objective of these roles is to develop a Big Data bench and engineering leadership talent for Avira as we expand globally in our analytical capabilities.

We believe that empowered, self-motivated teams can accomplish huge things. As our stack contains both nosql and relational databases and tools, we believe in right tool, right job; language for us is not a religious topic. For us the ideal candidate has been developing following skill-set:

You should have a minimum of a BS or an MS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Finance or equivalent work experience.
You have 3 or more years experience in a relevant Business Intelligence or Performance Management position.
Excellent relational modeling knowledge, logical schema, data modeling and SQL skills.
Implementation experience with ETL and DataWarehouse-ing applications and tools. Cognos and Talend openStudio are a pluses).
You get extra credit for having contributed to an open source project, especially Apache Hadoop, or completed a PhD.
Experience with major OLAP technologies, including administration and modeling.
Experience with techniques for handling semi-structured and unstructured data is a plus.
Experience with Big Data (Hadoop technology stack) is a plus.
Attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously;
A team player with strong communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills is imperative. Must also have a proven ability to develop vibrant working relationships at multiple levels.
Some travel (10-25%) is required, mainly between Bucharest, Munich and Silicon Valley.
Security, Internet or e-commerce industry experience is a plus.
