ROLE OBJECTIVES

Working with MD of power sales and trading and other members of the Group Power Trading, the core responsibilities of this power focused role will include in the establishment of the current and future regulatory requirements for NIS power trading business activities, the identification of regulatory risks, and the set-up and implementation of internal policies and procedures to ensure management of those requirements and risks. The role will be highly interdependent with other functions including Front Office, Legal and Risk. As a senior member of the team the successful candidate will lead on power regulatory related issues and support the power trading activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development
- Maintain close relationships with the Front Office to understand commercial strategy, potential new markets and products and forthcoming major transactions.
- Identify significant regulatory challenges and commercial opportunities for power arising from the planned strategy and tactics, for the current and future regulatory environments. Work with Front Office and support functions to develop corresponding action plans.
- Work with the Front Office Trading Capability team and the relevant support functions across NIS to ensure necessary operational arrangements are implemented for new business development.

External liaison
- Maintain thorough knowledge of current regulations and potential developments across power markets and products.
- Build relationships with relevant regulators, energy infrastructure operators, exchanges and relevant counterparties on all markets where NIS Petrol is currently active or plans to enter (EU markets in SEE & CE), through active participation in consultation processes, regulatory enquiries and industry forums.
- Represent NIS and the NIS Group’s best interest through input to consultation processes and selective lobbying (ensuring alignment with senior management).

Regulatory compliance
- Help ensure that NIS understands and complies with its energy regulation compliance requirements.
Risk management
- Identify and mitigate operational risks arising from regulatory compliance requirements. Liaise with operational risk management in the implementation of effective reporting, control and mitigation processes.
- Identify, assess and report strategic regulatory risks arising from potential developments.

- Members of NIS Group, to meet business objectives, specifically:
o Front Office – for current and future activities, and for operational capability development
o Legal & Compliance
o Risk Management
o Finance, Tax, Communications
o and relevant NIS Group functions, as required.

Skills and competencies
- Power specialist, able to balance understanding of the energy regulatory environment and market design with commercial insight.
- Able to quickly understanding and assimilate different regulatory regimes.
- Able to work in a dynamic, pressured environment and to meet tight deadlines.
- Able to establish and maintain strong professional relationships across a broad range of internal and external parties.
- Highly effective communication skills; articulate and able to converse at all levels; fluency in English and Romanian (verbal and written).
- Excellent knowledge of Romanian laws and regulations;
- Strong Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.

Experience
- Experience of the European power regulatory environment is essential.
- Exposure to energy trading, within a highly commercial and entrepreneurial focused business, would be an advantage.

Education
- Bachelor Degree in economics/ Bachelor of Law or other regulatory qualification(s) an advantage
- Minimum 5 years of previous experience in a similar position;
